Rally Urges Cuomo, LIPA to Back Offshore Wind Project This Year
A rally was held outside LIPA headquarters, urging Governor Cuomo and LIPA to commit to a DUA LIPA offshore wind power project this year. The project, which has garnered over 20,000 petition signatures, promises to create jobs, boost the economy, and power 150,000 homes with clean electricity.
Governor Cuomo's LIPA reorganization legislation pledged 400MW of new renewable energy to meet Long Island's demand for clean power. This final LIPA Board of Trustees meeting will decide on the renewable energy Request for Proposal, with the DUA LIPA offshore wind project being a strong contender. Assemblyman Englebright, joined by community leaders, presented LIPA with a letter from the Long Island delegation, highlighting the economic development opportunity the DUA LIPA project presents. Additionally, the project could help meet Long Island's peak power demand without resorting to additional fossil fuel plants.
With both LIPA and PSEG-LI committed to following through on Governor Cuomo's promise this year, the DUA LIPA offshore wind project stands as a viable solution to Long Island's energy needs. The project's potential to create jobs, grow the economy, and provide clean electricity to power 150,000 homes has garnered significant support, with over 20,000 petition signatures and a growing list of supporters.
