Real Estate Advocates Summit 2025 outlines a fresh direction for residential and financial market improvements in Lagos
The 2025 edition of the Real Estate Stakeholders' Forum (RESF) was held on September 16 at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, attracting over 1,000 key players across Nigeria's real estate value chain. The event, focused on addressing the country's persistent housing and investment challenges, concluded on a note of optimism.
Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to building a more inclusive, innovative, and investment-friendly real estate ecosystem in Nigeria. A major highlight of the forum was the announcement of a Policy Advisory Document, developed by the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) through extensive consultations. This document is expected to influence broader national housing reforms.
The Policy Advisory Document was presented to the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning Department by REDAN, who were unanimously adopted as the official voice of stakeholders. The document outlines key demands, including reforms in land titling, taxation, and investment incentives, aimed at driving sustainable urban development.
Critical issues discussed during the event included affordable housing delivery, land use reforms, modular housing innovations, and the widening housing finance gap. Barrister Festus Adebayo emphasized the urgency of addressing housing affordability and called for the professionalization of real estate development.
Speakers at the event, including Professor Timothy Nubi, emphasized the need for collaboration between government and developers. Professor Nubi highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration for unlocking Lagos' full urban potential.
The forum resolved to develop a Policy Advisory Document with technical recommendations for the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning Department. The communiqué, which includes demands for streamlined land titling, reduction of multiple taxation, and the creation of new investment incentives, was adopted by the stakeholders.
The event featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, and fireside chats, providing a platform for open dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders. REDAN will lead the presentation of a jointly issued communiqué to the government, advocating for the necessary reforms to address Nigeria's housing and investment challenges.
