A Golden Era for TKMS: Submarine Boom Whooshes us into the '40s!

Demand for TKMS products reaches all-time highs - Record-breaking Submarine Orders for Shipbuilding Company TKMS

Woah, TKMS is about to be jam-packed till the '40s! With an astounding record of over €18 billion in orders, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) is this year's golden goose of submarine construction. According to CEO Oliver Burkhard, "We've hit the jackpot, lad! What a ripper of a start to the year, mate!" While other companies struggle, TKMS is swimming in an ocean of success!

In just half a year, TKMS hauled in a jaw-dropping €5.6 billion worth of orders! Last year, they barely made meager €669 million in the same period. By the end of the last fiscal year, their order backlog stood sturdy at €11.7 billion.

What really got the ball rolling? Well, Singapore put in an order for two shiny, new 70-meter subs! These submarines will be constructed at the TKMS shipyard in Wismar rather than the Kiel headquarters, where the first units were crafted. Talk about efficiency, eh?

Now, the German Navy's getting in on the action too! Budget Committee of the German Bundestag gave the green light for the construction of four more modern Type 212CD-class submarines. This set the German order volume at a whopping €4.7 billion. Rumors are swirling that Norway is eyeing a similar expansion, too.

Not content to rest on their laurels, the plucky folks at TKMS nabbed the contract to build the new research icebreaker "Polarstern" for the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven. And, they're waiting patiently to hear from Canada about a potential submarine order. Talk about ambition!

The first half of the 2024/25 fiscal year saw TKMS' revenue skyrocket to €1.1 billion, jumping from a paltry €965 million the year prior. The adjusted operating profit before interest and taxes (EBIT) surged to €62 million (up from €42 million in the same period last year). As for the net result, I'm afraid they couldn't share that, mate.

TKMS is more than just a marine industry company. With around 8,000 employees stationed at three shipyards in Kiel, Wismar, and Itajaí (Brazil), as well as in various locations globally, they're the submarine wizards you wanna' bet your beer on!
