Reduced Gastro Tax in the Rhine Region, Focus on Neuss

In the bustling district of Rhein-Kreis Neuss, home to around 840 gastronomic establishments that employ approximately 6,230 people, according to the NGG, a proposed 12 percent reduction in the catering tax by the black-red federal government has sparked a heated debate.

Ina Korte-Grimberg, the business manager of NGG Krefeld-Neuss, expresses skepticism towards this proposed reduction. She encourages guests to remain vigilant, suggesting they remember the prices for individual dishes and inquire about the distribution of the tax reduction to staff.

Korte-Grimberg believes that many reasons will be presented by gastronomers as to why they urgently need this tax reduction. High energy costs, a standard argument used by the industry, is one such reason, she notes. However, she also points out the impending increase in the minimum wage to 13.90 euros on January 1, 2023, as a concern for pub owners and restaurant managers.

Amidst these concerns, Korte-Grimberg advises guests to inquire about a potential wage increase for the employees when dining out. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining fair wages for the hardworking staff in the district's gastronomic sector.

In a positive development, some gastronomic establishments in the district have announced plans to increase wages for their employees in 2023, although the specific names of these establishments are not yet available in the search results.

The next round of collective bargaining for the North Rhine-Westphalian gastronomy is set to take place in the coming year. Korte-Grimberg advocates for pubs and restaurants in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss to stick to collectively agreed wages.

In a reassuring statement, Korte-Grimberg asserts that no pub owner or restaurant manager will print new menus on January 1, 2026, reaffirming her commitment to fair practices in the industry.

As the debate continues, it is clear that the proposed catering tax reduction has raised important questions about the future of the gastronomic sector in Rhein-Kreis Neuss, and the role of collective bargaining in maintaining fair wages for all involved.
