Renault, Minth Join Forces for French Battery Casing JV by 2023
Renault Group and Minth Group have joined forces to create a joint venture for producing battery casings in France. The memorandum of understanding was signed recently, with the venture set to be finalized by early 2023, subject to usual conditions.
The new joint venture will be based at Renault's Ruitz plant in Renault ElectriCity. It plans to install two new production lines in 2023, aiming to manufacture 300,000 battery casings annually by 2025. These casings are crucial components for electric vehicles, enhancing durability and safety.
The joint venture will supply battery casings to other Renault plants in Douai and Maubeuge, supporting the group's goal to produce 480,000 electric vehicles annually by 2025. Jose-Vicente de los Mozos, EVP Industry at Renault Group, sees this partnership as a significant step in positioning Renault as a key player in the electric vehicle value chain.
Dr Jimmy Wong, Managing Director of Minth Europe, expressed gratitude for Renault's support. He highlighted the benefits of the joint venture for the local economy and Minth's global expansion.
The finalization of the Renault-Minth joint venture is expected by early 2023, subject to approval from employee representatives and competition authorities. This venture will not only support the growth of the electric vehicle market but also contribute to the development of Renault ElectriCity's industrial cluster.
