Return Expands in Germany with Four New Battery Storage Sites
Return, a leading European storage solutions provider, has expanded its presence in Germany. Through a partnership with Bessmart Energies GmbH, Return has acquired four battery storage sites in Eastern Germany. These facilities, set to come online in 2027, will have a combined capacity of 310 megawatts and 670 megawatt-hours.
The storage sites, located in Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, and Saxony, will be strategically positioned at critical grid nodes. This placement will help stabilize the power supply and absorb voltage fluctuations, ensuring a smoother and more reliable energy distribution.
The acquisition has significantly boosted Return's project pipeline in Europe, increasing it to over seven gigawatts. Bessmart, focused on the German market, has played a crucial role in this expansion. The Berlin-based firm has brought these storage projects to the point of construction, handled permitting, and ensured technical feasibility and integration into local structures.
With these acquisitions, Return continues to strengthen its position as a key player in Europe's energy storage landscape. The four new facilities, scheduled to come online in 2027, will contribute to a more stable and efficient power grid in Eastern Germany. Willem-Jan Schutte, CEO of Return, sees this partnership as a strategic solution for the energy system, demonstrating the company's commitment to driving innovation in energy storage.
