Not So Rosy Returns for Florists
In Germany, the average monthly salary for dedicated florists comes in at a measly 2,220 euros gross, full-time. This line of work places roughly a fourth of florists below 1,902 euros, while another quarter soars above 2,495 euros a month. These numbers, gleaned from over 10,700 wage data points, reveal floristry as one of the least lucrative vocational training jobs.
Nevertheless, the trade union IG Bau, partnering with the Association of German Florists (FDF), agreed on a two-tiered wage increase in late 2023. As of July 1, 2024, the collective wage will see a 2.5 to 6 percent boost, with a further 2.5 to 4.75 percent rise planned for July 1, 2025. This brings the hourly wage to 15.48 euros, as of July 2025. The collective agreement is set to run until June 30, 2026.
Yet, the minimum wages agreed by the union only apply to the Western tariff area. The eastern German federal states are left in the cold, relying on the general statutory minimum wage, currently set at 12.82 euros per hour.
