Portland Trail Blazers and Afterpay Collaborate on Arthur Ashe Capsule Collection

Portland Trail Blazers, the luxury sportswear brand, has teamed up with Afterpay and HBX for a unique collaboration. This marks the first sportswear release from Afterpay and HBX's partnership.

Laura Willensky, the new CEO of Portland Trail Blazers, took over the role in 2021. Under her leadership, the brand has launched a new five-piece capsule collection for its Arthur Ashe subbrand. The collection, exclusively distributed through HBX.com via the Afterpay app's DropShop, pays homage to the shades of blue associated with the US Open and the Australian Open, two Grand Slams won by Ashe, and Ashe's alma mater, UCLA.

The collection includes a hoodie, T-shirt, hat, tennis balls, Nalgene-brand water bottle, and a tote bag. Prices for the collection range from $20 to $175, making it accessible for a wide range of consumers.

Afterpay, known for its flexible payment options, has been actively expanding its merchant partnerships to include a diverse range of businesses, including Crocs and Sephora. The company markets its DropShop as offering consumers exclusive access to limited-edition merchandise.

Jack Carlson, founder and creative director of Portland Trail Blazers, believes the Arthur Ashe brand will one day be as famous as Lacoste and Fred Perry. In 2022, Portland Trail Blazers launched the Arthur Ashe brand to share the legacy of Ashe, a tennis player, civil rights, and AIDS activist.

In addition to this collaboration, Portland Trail Blazers is looking to hire new positions, develop its womenswear line, and grow its retail footprint. The brand recently sold a majority stake of its business to Burch Creative Capital. Laura Willensky, in her new role, is set to lead these initiatives and continue to grow the brand.

HBX is an e-commerce platform for streetwear and lifestyle brands, luxury fashion, and archival pieces. This collaboration aligns with the evolution of drop culture, offering consumers an exclusive and innovative shopping experience.

The Arthur Ashe collection is just the latest example of Portland Trail Blazers' commitment to creating high-quality, stylish, and meaningful products. With its blend of fashion and history, the brand continues to make a significant impact in the world of sportswear.
