Russia Adapts Defence Exports, Algeria to Get Advanced Su-57E Jets

Russia is adapting its defence export strategies to navigate international sanctions. It has approved a list of 'trusted commercial partners' and is using alternative currencies to facilitate transactions. Meanwhile, Algeria is set to become the first export customer for Russia's advanced Su-57E fighter jets.

Russia's defence industry is evolving its export frameworks, logistics, and financing channels to maintain international sales despite sanctions. It has introduced an approved list of 'trusted commercial partners' to reduce re-export risks. The country is also using alternative payment channels such as yuan, rubles, or euros to bypass financial restrictions.

In a significant development, Algeria is poised to become the first export customer for Russia's advanced Su-57E fifth-generation fighter jets. Satellite imagery from August 2025 suggests an Algerian variant of the Su-34 is already under assembly. Algeria has allegedly placed orders for 12 Su-57E fighters and 14 Su-34 tactical bombers, with deliveries scheduled between 2024 and 2026. Neither Moscow nor Algiers has publicly confirmed the contract, but visible production activity indicates a program in motion.

Russia's defence exports are adapting to sanctions, with Algeria set to receive advanced fighter jets. The country is also establishing a network of service centers abroad to support sustainment and spare-part flows for its exports. These developments highlight Russia's determination to maintain its position in the global defence market despite international restrictions.
