Russia's Ministry Launches Approved Taxi Vehicle List, Prioritizing Domestic Off-Road Models
The Ministry of Economy and Trade has published a list of approved taxi vehicles, initially featuring 22 domestic models. The list aims to provide more choices for officials, including 16 brands and 55 models, with regular updates to include new Russian models and those produced under special investment contracts (SPIC).
The first edition, released on October 1, includes popular domestic brands like Lada Granta, Vesta, Aura, UAZ 'Patriot', Niva Legend, and 'Moskvich' 3. Notably, the list prioritises cars designed for off-road driving, not those produced under special investment contracts.
Changes to taxi regulations will not impact existing machines currently in operation. However, some listed models, such as UAZ and Niva, may not be suitable for taxi use due to their design. The new law does not extend to car-sharing services.
The list will expand by spring 2026 to include models from Haval, Tennett, and 'Avtotore'. Regular updates will ensure the list remains current, offering more options for taxi operators.
The Ministry's list provides a broader range of taxi vehicle options, with an emphasis on domestic production and off-road capability. While some listed models may not be ideal for taxi use, the list will continue to grow and adapt to meet the needs of the industry.
