Sabine König appointed as head of LBS North East region.

Spunky New Take:

Sabine König, the feisty 51-year-old finance powerhouse, is set to take the reins at LBS Nordost come 2025. Replacing Jens Grelle, who's hanging up his boots after a stellar 30-year stint at Landesbausparkasse, she's moving from LBS Hessen-Thuringia and riding the waves of change in Brandenburg, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and East Berlin.

With a past stomping grounds at one of LBS Nordost's forerunners, LBS Bausparkasse Schleswig-Holstein-Hamburg (LBS SHH), from 2003 to 2017, König returns with a vengeance. After a brief stint in corporate consulting and a golden ticket to the management of LBS Hessen-Thuringia in March 2021, she's ready to knock 'em dead in her new digs.

Her reign at LBS Nordost will entail working alongside board chairman Helmut Ibsch and Jens Riemer, focusing on digitalization, IT, administration, building savings, financing, and internal audit. Helmut Ibsch expressed heartfelt gratitude to outgoing board member Grelle for his unwavering dedication to LBS: "He played a crucial role in establishing LBS Nordost as a stable and robust institutional powerhouse."

Sabine König's no stranger to the game. She's served as the managing director of her previous post at LBS Hessen-Thuringia and drives the ship with departments including market service, credit service, IT, and administration under her command. She's also spearheaded nationwide sustainability initiatives and green financing strategies for the LBS Group as the head of its sustainability strategy group.

Her finance journey started off with a bank apprenticeship in Mönchengladbach, followed by economics studies at Universität Witten/Herdecke. She spent a challenging yet rewarding 14 years at LBS SHH and later took the management consulting path, including stints at firms like zeb.rolfes.schierenbeck.associates.

König doesn't shy away from wielding her influence in high places. She's currently serving as Vice President of the European Bausparkassenvereinigung (European Building Society Association), fighting for homeowner rights and advocating for sensible housing finance policies at the EU level. With her expertise in retail banking operations, digital transformation, and EU-level financial regulation, she's here to make things happen.
