Saxony-Anhalt Allocates €4M for Habitat Conservation Projects
The Ministry of the Environment in Saxony-Anhalt is allocating €4 million for habitat conservation and improvement projects. Applications are open, with no deadline, and the first funding decisions are expected by mid-August 2022.
Last year, the ministry funded 89 projects with a similar amount. Examples of successful projects include dredging a pond in Harbke's castle park and underground cabling in Fiener Bruch to protect great bustards. This year, the Species Conservation Promotion program will prioritize projects protecting native waters and urban green spaces, providing food for wildlife, retaining water, and improving CO2 binding. Climate change threatens 1,560 species in the region, making these projects crucial. Applications can be requested from [email protected].
The ministry encourages organizations to apply for the funding, with no deadline for submission. The program will continue to fund projects with significant ecological benefits, aiming to combat the threat of extinction for many native species.
