"Saying Goodbye to a Sports Business Icon: Munich Pays Tribute to Berti"

In the heart of Munich, a renowned football shoe store, Sportecke Biehl, is undergoing a change. On September 1, its long-standing owner, Berti Biehl, handed over the reins to his successor, Alfons Kurt Mexner.

Berti Biehl, a 66-year-old Munich resident, has been the face of Sportecke Biehl in Minerviusstraße, Neuhausen, for decades. The store, a legend in the football shoe world, has been a favourite among locals, particularly the 'Jungväter' - those around 35 years old today.

Biehl's motto for the quieter time ahead is: "The past is history, the future is a mystery, I enjoy the moment." He will continue to be around, though, as his wife, Christel Biehl, has been working in the background of the store for many years.

The new owner, Mexner, is no stranger to the world of football. He is a 48-year-old Munich resident and a volunteer youth leader at TSV Allach. His grandparents had the Wacker guesthouse in Sendling back in the 1960s, and his uncle worked as the chief of the Olympic Stadium. Mexner's passion for football is evident, and he is capable of providing good advice to customers.

The store's customer base consists of children and teenagers, aged 8 to 16. They can find the same football shoes as their favourite players, such as Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, or Jamal Musiala. The store's selection caters to a wide range of budgets, including items with minor material defects or returns, according to Biehl.

In a heartwarming gesture, some boxes of football shoes are being donated to children in need in Cape Town, South Africa. Similarly, the founder of Nohnee, Rahmee Wetterich, is picking up boxes of light footballs for 11-year-olds for the children of her seamstresses in Senegal. The new footballs with great design will make the children in Senegal very happy.

Philipp Lahm, a famous football player, purchased his first football shoes from the store, adding to its prestige. Mexner is committed to maintaining this legacy while also making a positive impact in the community.

As Biehl steps back and Mexner steps forward, the future of Sportecke Biehl is filled with promise. The store will continue to be a beacon for football enthusiasts in Munich, providing quality shoes and spreading joy to children both near and far.
