Freddy Peterhans: A Promising Meeting over Outdoor Dining in Schulgasse

For close to an hour last Friday afternoon, Mayor Kurt Seggewiß, the restaurateur, and Building Director Oliver Seidel convened. They aimed to tackle the issue surrounding the planned outdoor dining area of the ex-leather shop on Schulgasse. As previously reported, the Building Committee and administration stood against this proposal with their veto.

"The discussion was quite hopeful," says the restaurateur, who is currently transforming the leather shop into a restaurant. To make the venture profitable, he requires tables and chairs not only on the Upper Market but also in Schulgasse. There are "no concrete commitments," but they are striving for a resolution, shares the restaurateur.

What the setup might entail, Seidel remains unsure. A solution is sought based on the Building Committee's resolution, providing for the extension of the seating concept for the Upper and Lower Market to Schulgasse's side streets.

This is not yet a definitive approval that alfresco dining will be inevitable in Schulgasse near St. Michael's Church. The city intends to appoint a planning office to work out a comprehensive plan instead. Seidel refrains from specifying when the individual case will no longer be under examination and the idea will be implemented.

The city emphasizes that the front area of Schulgasse must remain accessible for emergency services and residents. Moreover, it can only station its construction vehicles there for work in the pedestrian zone. The restaurateur counters with arguments, such as allowing another nearby eatery to have seating, even though the street is comparatively narrower there.

A Cafe Warning: No Outdoor Seating, No Business for the Weiden Restaurateur

For the Amberger Altstadtfest's music enthusiasts, the concert spots are undoubtedly familiar. Nevertheless, an overview remains handy given the festival's diverse lineup and new additions.

In Weiden, the Summer Serenade boasted another successful event in the Max-Reger-Park. The band "Back Beat" captivated the audience with music from the 1950s to the mid-1970s, focusing mainly on the Beatles' hits. Thousands of visitors attended.

Tragedy struck young swimming enthusiasts elsewhere as a 20-year-old lost his life in a bathing accident. Rescue forces attempted to save him but arrived too late.

In a shocking incident, a bridge collapsed during a Corpus Christi procession, leaving many injured. The procession was taking place over a lake when the bridge's floor collapsed, causing numerous individuals to fall into the water.

The festival in Amberg offered more exciting news with Sara Däbritz, an Ebermannsdorfer native, joining Real Madrid. Keep updated with these events and more through our various platforms!
