Smartshooter's New SMASH 3000 Enhances Heavy Machine Guns' Counter-Drone Capabilities
Smartshooter, an Israeli company, has introduced a new configuration of their SMASH 3000 sight, designed for heavy machine guns like the M2 Browning. This development is a result of their participation in Project VANAHEIM/FLYTRAP, a collaborative UK-US program focusing on counter-drone systems.
The new SMASH 3000 sight for heavy machine guns is an optimized version of the company's primary small arms offering, recently adopted by the British Army and USMC. It includes a specially designed control unit add-on and a rechargeable smart lithium-ion battery pack.
Equipping heavy machine guns with SMASH 3000 enhances light maneuver units' counter-drone capabilities. Troops can now engage targets at greater ranges or with increased kinetic effect. The sight uses machine learning and AI to detect, track, and lock on to moving targets, increasing hit probability against small to medium drones by up to 95%.
During VANAHEIM trials, SMASH 3000 was successfully mounted on a heavy machine gun and engaged unmanned aerial system (UAS) targets at ranges up to 400 meters.
Smartshooter's new SMASH 3000 sight for heavy machine guns is set to bolster counter-drone capabilities for light maneuver units. With proven effectiveness in trials and enhanced range, it promises to be a valuable asset in modern warfare.
