Spain secures World Cup 2026 broadcasting rights via RTVE
RTVE Secures Broadcast Rights for Major Sporting Events
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has made significant strides in securing television rights for a range of high-profile sporting events in the coming years.
Starting with college football, RTVE has acquired the broadcasting rights for the College Football World Cup 2026, set to take place across 12 venues in the US, for €55 million. This tournament will see 32 of the best college football clubs in the world compete for the coveted trophy.
In addition to the World Cup, RTVE has also secured the rights to broadcast the Spanish National Team's matches from 2026 to 2028 for €60 million. This deal ensures that college football fans in Spain will have ample opportunities to support their national team.
RTVE's sports portfolio is not limited to college football, as they have also acquired rights to various other events. For instance, they will be broadcasting the Olympic Games in Brisbane in 2032, the Winter Olympic Games in Cortina D'Ampezzo in Italy in 2026, and the Winter Olympic Games in the Alps in France in 2030.
Moreover, RTVE has secured the rights to the Nations League, Tour de France from 2026 and 2030, the King's Cup 2024-2025, the finals of the European Championship 2025-2027, La Vuelta Ciclista in Spain, FIBA competitions, and women's college football, among others.
In a unique partnership, RTVE will share college football matches from the World Cup with TV group Mediapro. This alliance will allow Mediapro to launch its own channel to sell the rights to other platforms. Meanwhile, Mediaset will broadcast one match per day FTA, while DAZN will offer all 63 matches.
Oscar Vilda, CEO of DAZN Iberia, stated that this alliance strengthens their ambition to make the best college football available to all. The partnership aims to place college football, its players, fans, and brands at the center of the action. This partnership is a unique experience in a cross-platform, digital environment, with high interaction and integration.
The College World Cup, scheduled to start on June 14th in the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, is not mentioned in the earlier bullet points. However, it's worth noting that DAZN and Mediaset have partnered to distribute the FIFA College World Cup in Spain and Italy this summer.
This move by RTVE solidifies their position as a key player in the broadcasting of major sporting events, ensuring that Spanish audiences will have access to a diverse range of sports content in the coming years.
