King Felipe VI's State Visit to Egypt: Strengthening Ties and Promoting Cooperation

King Felipe VI of Spain is currently in Egypt for a state visit, aiming to bolster economic and cultural ties between the two nations. During his visit, the King held separate meetings with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and the Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Madbouli.

King Felipe VI expressed his belief that these figures have "greater potential to take off," indicating a promising future for Spain-Egypt relations. One of the key areas of focus is the improvement of Egypt's main archaeological sites, with Spanish companies contributing state-of-the-art technology.

The King also advocated for strengthening the trust between companies of both nations to promote joint projects beneficial for their societies. He emphasised the importance of tourism, a "clear reflection of the shared interests" of Spain and Egypt, with millions of visitors each year.

In Cairo, King Felipe VI presided over the Spain-Egypt Business Forum, the objective of which is to dynamize the economic relations between both countries. The forum is expected to lead to increased cooperation, especially in strategic sectors such as tourism.

During his visit, Queen Letizia also made significant contributions. She visited the cultural centre of the Sultan Foundation in the City of the Dead and inaugurated a photographic exhibition by Egyptian Mohamed Mahdy and Spanish Laura Silleras. Queen Letizia also learned about the 'Improving socio-economic and cultural opportunities for women and children in the City of the Dead' project developed by Spanish Cooperation.

The trade balance between Spain and Egypt is currently 1.457 million euros in Spanish exports and 1.680 million in Egyptian imports. Despite this, King Felipe VI urges for improving economic and commercial cooperation further.

King Felipe VI denounced the "brutal and unacceptable suffering" of Gaza and defended a "viable Palestinian state." He qualified the situation in Gaza as an unbearable humanitarian crisis.

Their Majesties also travelled to Luxor and will remain until Friday to visit several Spanish economic, cultural, and scientific projects. Today, they visited the Temple of Hatshepsut in the Valley of the Kings and inaugurated the illumination of the monuments, developed by Spanish companies.

Despite extensive research, there are no specific results identifying Spanish companies involved in state-of-the-art technology projects for the preservation of archaeological sites in Egypt, nor detailed information about their roles in lighting, security, and relic conservation.

King Felipe VI expressed his admiration for the Pyramids of Giza, symbolising the rich history and cultural exchange between Spain and Egypt. As the state visit continues, both nations look forward to strengthening their partnership and fostering a brighter future for their societies.
