Reimagining 1905 Square in Yekaterinburg: Festivals, Greenery, and More

From June 29 to September 29, parking cars will be banned on 1905 Square, according to the city administration's close confidant on Telegram, "Ekaterinburg. Main."

In July, an event called "Summer on the Square" will take place near City Hall, originally conceptualized by the Mayakovsky Park team. "The central area will be adorned with hundreds of green plants and unique small architectural structures. All constructions are easily mountable, so the territory can be quickly adapted for sports events, exhibitions, concerts, and fairs," Alexandey Orlov, the head of Ekaterinburg, shared on his Telegram channel.

Initially in spring 2025, discussions took place in the administration about making the 1905 Square parking ban permanent, but those plans were eventually abandoned. The City Hall showcased several options for utilizing the empty parking space. The head of Ekaterinburg, Alexandey Orlov, appreciated the experience of using the parking area as an ice rink. Last winter, ice was placed on the central square for the first time. Due to the high demand for the ice rink, its operation was extended until March. In November, the ice rink will be set up again.

It's anticipated that funds for the redevelopment may come from a portion of the tourist tax. For the first quarter, the city received 25 million rubles from the tax. Additionally, sponsors are also being considered. According to the city's press service, when preparing the concept, the interests of motorists will be taken into account, but no complaints about parking issues were received when the square was closed for several months.

There's no recent information available regarding long-term parking regulations, funding for redevelopment, or the continuation of the winter ice rink on 1905 Square in Yekaterinburg. For the latest details on urban development and city planning, it's recommended to directly consult local government sources, official city planning announcements, or recent news updates.

The redevelopment project for 1905 Square in Yekaterinburg may receive funding from the tourist tax and potential sponsors, opening up possibilities for events such as concerts, exhibitions, and fairs in the transformed, greener area. In the future, financial institutions and the transportation industry might be interested in partnering with the city to leverage the increased foot traffic and commercial opportunities offered by the reimagined square.
