Staffing firm Adecco pledges to aid 50,000 refugees in securing decent employment opportunities by the year 2025.
In a significant move towards building employability for underserved and underprivileged populations, Accenture, a leading global workforce solutions provider, has announced plans to assist at least 50,000 refugees in finding quality jobs by 2025. This ambitious goal was unveiled by Christophe Catoir, President of Accenture, at the global Tent European Business Summit.
Accenture, based in Zurich, Switzerland, has been at the forefront of providing employment opportunities to refugees and underprivileged populations. Over the past decade, the company has collaborated with organizations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the European Network Against Racism's Equal@Work Platform to facilitate job opportunities for the disadvantaged.
One of the key aspects of Accenture's strategy is partnerships for skill development and employment. The company partners with local and global organizations to provide meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for refugees. In Europe, they run hiring, training, and mentorship programs targeting refugees and migrants, including Ukrainian refugee women, aiming to support tens of thousands into skill-aligned jobs across sectors like business logistics, IT, marketing, finance, and legal services.
Accenture also collaborates with YMCA Europe to establish community hubs in countries such as Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, and Slovakia. These hubs serve internally displaced persons and refugees by connecting them to local communities, resources, training, and institutional support, thereby enhancing refugees' ability to access employment and integrate socially.
The company's inclusive hiring programs are another crucial part of its strategy. Accenture offers a Preferred Refugee Employer (PRE) program which encourages companies to adopt inclusive hiring practices for newcomers. This initiative provides job readiness training, credential translation, certifications, and direct pathways to employment to ensure refugees and immigrants can access job opportunities effectively.
Accenture's strategy also involves corporate and community engagement. Corporate partners are engaged through grants, sponsorships, and volunteering programs, which support both emergency assistance and long-term integration efforts including employment services. Companies are encouraged to create welcoming workplaces to leverage the talents of refugee employees.
The company's comprehensive refugee services and resettlement support include collaborations with local resettlement agencies to provide job placement, safe housing, and community integration services. The aim is to help refugees become self-sustaining quickly.
In 2022, Accenture assisted over 15,000 refugees in Europe find employment. The company currently provides jobs for more than 660,000 people daily and aims to increase this number to 850,000 people in 2025.
