The U.S. stock markets experienced gains on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at 44,922 points, marking a 1.0 percent increase. The S&P 500 also saw a rise, ending the day at around 6,467 points, up 0.3 percent. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 calculated a value of approximately 23,849 points 1.
In the currency markets, the European common currency strengthened on Wednesday evening. The exchange rate of one dollar to one euro was 0.8547, while the equivalent value of one euro in U.S. dollars was 1.1700.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, is reportedly open to cutting interest rates as soon as their mid-September meeting, subject to the latest economic data and outlook. This possibility was hinted at by Fed Chair Jerome Powell in his speech at the Jackson Hole symposium, where he emphasized that rate decisions will be data-driven and reflect the complex economic environment with rising downside risks to employment 2.
Meanwhile, the price of North Sea Brent crude fell on Wednesday, dropping by $0.31 or 0.5 percent. The price per barrel was reported at $65.81 3.
In the precious metals market, the price of gold increased, with an ounce of pure gold trading at $3,358 (+0.2 percent). The equivalent price of an ounce of gold in euros is €92.26 per gram 4.
