Streetcars NoNo3 and 5 to Stop Running on May 25th due to Track Repairs in Tomsk
Tomsk, Russia - Citing a press release from the city's municipal authorities, residents should expect a temporary shutdown of tramway services on routes NoNo3 and 5 in Tomsk on May 25, 2025, due to track maintenance work on Plekhanov Alley and nearby Lebedev Street. The repair works will be carried out between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM on that day.
According to the press statement, almost half of the city's total tramway tracks, which amount to 42 kilometers, are in need of repair. As of 2023, close to nine kilometers of tracks have undergone renovation since 2019. Future plans envision a budget of 914 million rubles for tramway repairs in Tomsk from 2024 to 2030. In 2025 alone, the Ninth- km-long portion of the tracks on Prospekt Komsoomolsky will be repaired for 71.5 million rubles.
The repair work on May 25 will involve two sections of the tracks in Plekhanov Alley starting from Sovietskaya Street and stretching to Lebedev Street, as well as the portion of Lebedev Street between Plekhanov Alley and Prospekt Komsoomolsky. Consequently, tram services on routes NoNo3 and 5 will be suspended during this time.
The general director of Tomsk Tram and Trolleybus United (TTU), Evgeni Cherepanov, stated: "We carry out repairs on Sundays when passenger traffic is minimal. Our aim is to complete all works swiftly so that people can resume their usual journeys by Monday without delays."
