Swindling duo in Middelfranken are pocketing money for a 180,000 euro scheme
In a recent ruling, the Nuremberg District Court has convicted a couple from Middle Franconia for withholding and misappropriating social security payments. The entrepreneurs, aged 53 and 57, pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to pay significant fines.
The woman was ordered to pay a fine of 99,000 euros, consisting of 600 daily rates of 165 euros each. The man, on the other hand, was sentenced to a fine of 10,000 euros, comprising 400 daily rates of 25 euros each.
The couple's transgression came to light when it was discovered that they had failed to register 29 of their employees correctly with social security for nearly three years. Only 15 out of these 29 employees were officially registered, while the remaining 14 were either not registered or paid under the table. As a result, the couple withheld approximately 180,000 euros from social security payments.
The court did not impose imprisonment on the couple but did highlight the seriousness of their actions. The conviction includes fines in addition to earlier penalties, as the couple had previously been found guilty of similar offences.
The Main Customs Office announced the conviction, stating that it underscores the importance of employers adhering to social security regulations. The case serves as a reminder that such fraudulent activities not only impact the affected employees and the social security system but also undermine fair competition in the business sector.
The couple's conviction for withholding and misappropriating social security payments is a significant decision, and it is hoped that it will deter others from engaging in similar activities. The Nuremberg District Court's ruling emphasises the importance of compliance with social security regulations and the consequences that come with non-compliance.
