Taipei Dangdai Postpones 2026 Exhibition
The Art world is experiencing a period of reflection and restructuring, as both the Taipei Dangdai art fair and The Art Show, organised by the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), have announced cancellations for their upcoming events.
Taipei Dangdai, which first debuted in January 2019, will not be held in 2026. The news of the hiatus was first reported by Artnet, and a statement regarding the re-evaluation can be found on the fair's website. The decision comes as part of a strategic re-evaluation, allowing for a period of reflection and restructuring to reassess their position within the art market and adapt to new circumstances or challenges faced by the art world.
Similarly, the ADAA has cited a "strategic pause" as the reason for cancelling The Art Show, which was scheduled for October this year. The fair, which usually takes place in New York, has been a significant event in the art calendar for many years.
Both fairs are overseen by Angus Montgomery Arts, an exhibition consultancy firm that is a principal and founding shareholder of all three art fairs. Angus Montgomery Arts's portfolio includes other notable art fairs such as Art Central in Hong Kong, the India Art Fair in New Delhi, Sydney Contemporary, and the Aotearoa Art Fair, in Auckland, New Zealand.
Taipei Dangdai oversees three regional art fairs in Asia, including Art SG in Singapore and Tokyo Gendai in Yokohama, Japan. However, the sixth edition of Taipei Dangdai, which was held in May of this year, saw a decrease in participating galleries from the more than 90 galleries in the first edition, with none of the mega-galleries participating in the sixth edition.
The fair's Instagram page appears to be disabled, and Taipei Dangdai has been removed from the website of Angus Montgomery Arts. Additionally, Angus Montgomery Arts's division Creo Arts cancelled the debut edition of Photofairs scheduled for Hong Kong this year, and a second edition of Photofairs in New York was cancelled for 2024.
Angus Montgomery Arts issued a statement on July 24, 2025, regarding the status of their fairs, stating that they are committed to the long-term success of their events and will continue to work closely with the art community to ensure that when they return, they will do so with renewed energy and a fresh perspective.
As the art world continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these cancellations and re-evaluations impact the industry and what changes may come in the future.
