Telegram's Durov Sparks Controversy With Illegal Lake Kolsai Swim
Telegram founder Pavel Durov has sparked controversy after posting a video of himself swimming in Lake Kolsai, a popular tourist spot in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. The swim, however, appears to have violated local regulations.
Lake Kolsai, situated within the Kolsai Lakes National Park, has designated swimming areas only. Durov's video shows him swimming in an unrestricted zone, potentially breaching park rules. Swimming outside designated areas or during cold weather is considered an administrative offense.
The fine for such violations is substantial. Initially reported as 20,000 to 30,000 tenge, it was later clarified to be 10 MRE, equivalent to approximately 39,320 tenge. Despite the potential penalty, Durov shared his swim on his Telegram stories, drawing attention to the issue.
Pavel Durov's swim in Lake Kolsai has highlighted the importance of adhering to local regulations. While the incident has raised awareness about the issue, it also serves as a reminder of the consequences of disregarding such rules.
