Tesla Extends Monthly Extended Warranty Program to Canadian Market
Tesla Extends Extended Service Agreement (ESA) Program to Canada
Tesla has expanded its Extended Service Agreement (ESA) program to Canada, offering Canadian drivers a flexible, monthly subscription for extended vehicle protection after the original warranty expires. The program, which mirrors Tesla's U.S. model, provides coverage for up to 48 months or 80,000 kilometres, depending on the vehicle and the terms of the agreement.
The ESA program lets owners avoid a large upfront payment by paying about C$70 to C$205 monthly depending on the Tesla model, with a maximum cost of C$3,840 for a full four-year term. Coverage starts immediately after the Basic or Used Vehicle Limited Warranty expires and includes typical extended warranty services, with a deductible of approximately C$135.
Advantages of Tesla’s ESA program in Canada include:
- Pay-as-you-go flexibility: Customers can cancel anytime; coverage remains active until the end of the current monthly billing period with no long-term upfront commitment.
- Budget-friendly extension: Allows owners to spread out the cost of extended coverage instead of paying a lump sum, aiding better financial planning.
- Vehicle model-specific pricing: Tailored monthly pricing reflects different vehicle values and repair cost risks, with the Model 3 costing C$70 per month, Model Y costing C$80 per month, Model S costing C$170 per month, and Model X costing C$205 per month.
- No re-enrollment after cancellation: Cancel once your subscription ends, but it cannot be restarted later, encouraging continuous coverage for long-term protection.
- Extension offering for prior fixed-term ESA buyers: Tesla is providing a three-month extension to owners who bought earlier two-year ESAs as a goodwill gesture and transition to the monthly plan model.
The ESA covers most Tesla-supplied parts that fail during the coverage period. However, it does not cover damage from accidents, modifications, or normal wear and tear, as well as the 12V battery, bodywork, paint, tires, and routine maintenance parts like brake pads or wiper blades.
At the moment, monthly ESA subscriptions for Cybertruck are not available in Canada. Tesla already offers insurance in some regions, but the ESA program provides coverage that extends beyond Tesla's Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty, offering enhanced post-warranty peace of mind without the financial burden of an upfront extended warranty purchase.
To sign up for the ESA program, open the Tesla app, tap Upgrades > Service Plans > Extended Service Agreement, review the terms, and tap Subscribe. For more information, visit Tesla's official website or contact your local Tesla service centre.
