TGC-14 leader institutes a fasting protest
Power Sector Executive Detained in Fraud Probe
Konstantin Lyulchev, chairman of the board and co-owner of PJSC "TGK-14," one of Russia's largest energy suppliers, has embarked on a hunger strike following his detention on suspicion of large-scale financial fraud. This development has been reported by "Kommersant."
Lyulchev views the case against him as a corporate takeover attempt instead of a bona fide criminal investigation. The authorities claim that Lyulchev and another high-ranking TGK-14 official, Viktor Myschnik, have systematically inflated heating charges for a two-year period, leading to roughly 9 million rubles worth of losses for companies under Rostec. Both are accused of altering financial data within tariff applications for personal profit and collusive practices with colleagues.
According to the investigators, the potential damage from this fraudulent activity may far surpass the reported amounts and could reach billions of rubles. The number of affected parties may also increase substantially. Lyulchev was arrested in Chita while attempting to leave the country, while Myschnik was held in Moscow, where he was traveling in a Rolls-Royce. It has been suggested that Myschnik may be moved to Zabaykalsky Krai, where the investigation is primarily occurring.
Previously, the Chita Generation Company's employees addressed complaints regarding TGK-14's management to Zabaykalsky Krai Prosecutor Alexei Yanovskiy and President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
