The Stammstrecke, the backbone of Munich's S-Bahn network, will experience disruptions over two weekends in January 2023 due to the detection of unexploded ordnance and the construction of a new pedestrian underpass at Ostbahnhof.

During the first weekend (January 10-13), several S-Bahn lines will be affected:

  • S6 West and S8 Ost will form a single line between Tutzing and Airport, which will be the only one to cross the entire Stammstrecke. The S8 West will only run between Herrsching and Pasing, while S6 trains will be cancelled between Hackerbrücke and Trudering.
  • All S-Bahn lines except S7 will be affected. S4 trains will only run between Geltendorf and Heimeranplatz, and S5 trains will only run between Kreuzstraße and Giesing.
  • There will be no train service on the Stammstrecke between Hackerbrücke and Ostbahnhof, as well as between Ostbahnhof and Giesing/Trudering. Replacement buses will be running between Ostbahnhof and Trudering, stopping at Leuchtenbergring and Berg am Laim.
  • S3 trains will be cancelled between Pasing and Giesing, and S2 trains will be completely cancelled between Hackerbrücke and Ostbahnhof, not stopping at Berg am Laim or Leuchtenbergring.

On the second weekend (January 18-19), the Stammstrecke will be affected again due to acceptance tests for the new electronic signal box at Ostbahnhof.

For those seeking detailed, dated disruption information for the Stammstrecke in January 2023, it is recommended to check official Munich public transport (MVV/MVG) archives or city transport announcements from that period directly.

Please note that no S-Bahn lines will be affected on the weekend of January 10-13, as they were previously. S1 trains will end at Hauptbahnhof and not stop at Hackerbrücke, while S6 Ost will only run between Ebersberg and Trudering.

In light of the construction projects and acceptance tests on the Stammstrecke in Munich's S-Bahn network during January 2023, various finance-dependent industries such as transportation and public-transit may experience disruptions. For instance, when the unexploded ordnance and the new pedestrian underpass at Ostbahnhof are being addressed from January 10-13, several S-Bahn lines will be affected, potentially impacting the efficiency of transportation services. Similarly, during the subsequent acceptance tests for the new electronic signal box at Ostbahnhof from January 18-19, similar transportation issues may arise, affecting both passengers and industries relying on this essential aspect of Munich's transportation network.
