Trains will be temporarily replaced by buses on a suburban rail line northeast of Copenhagen.
🚊 Summertime S-Bahn Shutdown:
💡 Extra Info: Trains on the S-Bahn line between Svanemøllen and Hillerød will be canned for over six weeks this summer, leaving commuters in a pickle. Don't sweat it, though! Compensation's on the way, and replacement buses will be rolling in.
Get ready, 'cause for more than six weeks, starting mid-May and picking back up at the end of June, trains on one of the busiest routes into Copenhagen will be a no-go. Banedanmark, Denmark's track operator, is shutting down both tracks on the S-Bahn line between Svanemøllen and Hillerød.
"During the track work in May, DSB will replace the S-trains with train buses – both along and across the Hillerød Line," Tony Bispeskov, head of information at DSB, said in a press release.
"Commuters, I'm urging you to use the Rejseplanen app to find out what's fastest and most hassle-free," Bispeskov advises. "For some customers on the route, it'll be quicker to take train buses across – for example from Hillerød to Værløse – and then carry on with the S-trains along Farumbanen towards Copenhagen."
The choke point they're focusing on is one of Copenhagen's busiest on the S-banen commuter railway, with several hundred trains per day. So, expect it to be a bit of a zoo.

Over the span of six months, between May and October, Banedanmark plans to replace 10 kilometers of rails and 2,000 sleepers, because they're reaching the end of their life. They'll still manage to keep one track running on the route for most of that six-month period.
"The work's necessary to make sure the busy S-Bahn stays in tip-top shape," Malene Friis Aagaard, who's managing the project, said in the press release. "We're doing our best to minimize the disturbance for our neighbors and commuters during this time."
The work involves more than just rail replacement. Banedanmark will replace 33 switches, renovate four bridges, replace 69 overhead line masts, and 2,000 meters of overhead line.
If you've pre-paid for your commuter ticket or youth card, you're eligible for compensation on DSB's website.
