A unexpected power outage brought havoc to London's Underground network on May 12, 2025. Various lines either partially or entirely halted operations as reported by the British news agency PA. The power failure persisted for several minutes in southwest London, confirmed a Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson.
In the midst of the evening rush hour, numerous connections faced outages and delays, with commuter numbers swelling the London Underground, popularly known as The Tube.
Based on our investigations, here's the list of lines affected by the power outage:
- The Elizabeth Line was partly suspended, with severe delays reported.
- The Bakerloo Line comprised of 12 stations was shut down entirely.
- The Jubilee Line was partly suspended, causing intense delays.
- The Northern Line, which has 48 stations, had no service on its Charing Cross branch linking London Euston via Leicester Square and Waterloo with Kennington, nor south of Stockwell.
- The Piccadilly Line wasn't fully suspended, but ongoing service suffered frequent disruptions.
- The Waterloo & City Line experienced disruptions, just like the Piccadilly Line.
Interestingly, the Metropolitan Line only experienced minor setbacks, albeit unrelated to the power outage itself. Both the Suffragette and Weaver Overground lines were completely halted, and the Mildmay Overground line faced significant delays.
Stay tuned for further updates on the London Underground's recovery from this unexpected disruption.

- As the finance and industry sectors largely rely on reliable public-transit systems like the London Underground, the power cut could potentially cause significant delays and issues in these sectors during the busy evening hours.
