Steady Decline in Counterfeit 5,000-Ruble Notes in Krasnodar Region
Unveiled in Q1 2025: Significant Counterfeit Items Quantified at 3 Million Rubles
In the initial quarter of 2025, a noticeable drop occurred in counterfeit banknotes sightings within the Krasnodar region. The Southern GU of the Bank of Russia reported a decrease by a third compared to the same period the previous year, with a total of 89 counterfeit bills valued at approximately 300,000 rubles.
Surprisingly, the most frequently duplicated currency was the 5,000-ruble notes issued in 1997 - 54 examples were uncovered. Similarly, 27 counterfeit 1,000-ruble notes, four of 2,000 rubles, and one of 500 rubles made an appearance, along with some fraudulent coinage. Two counterfeit $50 bills also surfaced, as per the Central Bank's records.
Counterfeits are typically discovered during the cash collection process at stores and trading points. Authorities strongly advise double-checking the authenticity of any banknotes that raise suspicions, rather than passing them on or risk potential complications.
