Groundbreaking for Exciting New Residential Quarter in Lürrip

After much anticipation, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new construction area in Lürrip has taken place. This development is part of a larger new quarter on the former military REME site, which is set to transform the heart of Mönchengladbach.

The new construction area, spanning approximately 3,800 square meters of street surface and 530 meters of canal, will be executed by Anton Küpper Bau. The development work on Lot 1 of the new construction area is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.

Lot 1 will not only feature residential units but also a primary school and kindergarten, making it a self-contained community. A boulevard-like foot and cycle path runs through the new construction area, promoting active transportation and a sense of community.

Dr. Ulrich Schückhaus, chairman of the EWMG management board, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, "The new residential quarter in the heart of Mönchengladbach is being developed." The organization responsible for the construction of the residential units in construction area 1 of the new development on the former REME military site in Lürrip is the housing cooperative "Wohnungsbau Lürrip eG."

Approximately 1.5 million euros is being invested in the new construction area for urgently needed housing. The plots for the houses in the new construction area will be allocated through three different procedures: highest bid, social points, and lottery based on a fixed price.

In addition to Lot 1, the new quarter in the REME area will also include Lots 2 and 3. These areas will see the Gladbach river being renaturalized, creating an attractive green and recreation area.

Dr. Schückhaus further stated, "The development of the entire REME site presents challenges, but Lot 1 shows what is possible." EWMG will start marketing the 14 building plots for detached single-family and semi-detached houses to private builders.

Moreover, EWMG had already announced a construction site for multi-family houses with underground garage on Compesmuhlenweg, with 29 residential units planned, at least 50% of which will be publicly subsidized. In the medium term, a total of around 300 residential units are expected to be created on the three lots in the new quarter.

The new construction area in Lürrip is designed to create a vibrant piece of the city with space for social diversity, short distances, and quality of life. As Dr. Schückhaus said, "A vibrant piece of the city is being created in the new construction area in Lürrip, with space for social diversity, short distances, and quality of life." This exciting development is sure to be a significant addition to Mönchengladbach.
