updated U1 Line Closure extends itself: poor weather halts construction
User remains suspended for five additional days
The U-Bahn line U1 in Hamburg between Ohlsdorf and Lattenkamp has been shut down since November 4th. The planned end date for this closure has been extended by five additional days, with services resuming on December 16th according to Hochbahn. The reason for the delay? Persistent poor weather in November.
Construction work between Ohlsdorf and Lattenkamp could not proceed as planned due to the unfavorable conditions. "The heavy rains made it impossible to create a stable ground base to lay the railway track," Hochbahn reported. This disruption to the U1 services means a 10-20 minute extension to bus replacement trips.
Elimination of Sengelmannstraße U1 Stop
Services on the U1 will not stop at the Sengelmannstraße station until January 19, 2025. Passengers traveling to or from Sengelmannstraße can use regular buses instead.
During the works, the Sengelmannstraße station will be expanded with the aim of enabling future transfers between the U1 and the new U5. The new platform has already been built and will initially be used by the U1, Bundesbahn says.
Anticipated Start of Partial U5 Operations: 2029
Between City-Nord and Sengelmannstraße, the autonomous U5 passenger service is expected to commence in 2029. The segment from Bramfeld to Borgweg is scheduled to open in 2033. The full build-out of the U5 line will continue until 2040.
