USGBC-CA Launches Sustainable Production for Entertainment Certification with Amazon MGM Studios
The U.S. Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA) has launched the Sustainable Production for Entertainment Certification (SPEC) program. Amazon MGM Studios has stepped up as the first studio to embrace this initiative, aiming to train 30 sustainability managers and coordinators.
The SPEC program was developed in collaboration with industry and technical experts Green Spark Group and Ereth Environmental. It aims to set an industry standard for sustainability certification and provide comprehensive training. The curriculum was refined with input from a multi-disciplinary Advisory Group consisting of entertainment industry stakeholders.
The certification will roll out in phases. This year, a foundational track will be introduced, followed by topical and position-specific certifications for advanced learning. The SPEC applies to all major segments of the entertainment industry, focusing on waste reduction, value/supply chain, risk management, climate communications, carbon calculation, and energy management.
USGBC-CA Executive Director Ben Stapleton expressed excitement about Amazon MGM Studios' initiative. He anticipates a significant impact on the entertainment industry's sustainability efforts. Starting the end of September, the training will be open to all entertainment professionals.
