Variety in Taxi Colour Options Now Allowed in Saxony-Anhalt
Saxony-Anhalt, one of Germany's five federal states, has announced a change in taxi regulations that allows companies to freely choose the colour of their vehicles. The announcement was made by Dr. Lydia Hüskens, the state's Transport Minister, in Magdeburg.
Previously, taxis in Saxony-Anhalt were required to be a standard colour, usually beige, to ensure recognisability. However, with this new regulation, taxi companies can now use vehicles in colours other than light beige.
The decision was made in close coordination with the taxi industry and the chambers of industry and commerce in the state. Dr. Hüskens emphasised that it no longer fits into today's world to prescribe by law what colour taxis can be.
This change is expected to bring simplifications and economic advantages for the taxi companies. More providers are pushing onto the market who are not bound by rigid guidelines. The minister believes this decision creates fairness and flexibility in competition.
It is important to note that while taxis in Saxony-Anhalt can now be coloured differently, they must still be recognisable as such, with the necessary signage and taxi light on the roof of the cars. The change in colour for taxi vehicles must also be recorded in the abbreviated official copy of the permit certificate.
This move by Saxony-Anhalt follows a trend in some parts of Germany where traditional regulations regarding taxi colours have been relaxed. While the specific situation in the other four federal states is not yet clear, it is known that in Germany, traditionally, taxis have been required to have a standard colour to be recognisable.
The announcement in Saxony-Anhalt marks a step towards modernising the taxi industry in the state and providing more flexibility for companies operating within it.
