Velbert's City Center Gets Facelift With Comprehensive Façade Program
Velbert's city center is receiving a facelift, thanks to a comprehensive facade and surroundings program. Since 2017, the city has supported 55 properties, with municipal buildings like the Nikolaus-Ehlen-Gymnasium also benefiting. The program offers subsidies of up to €40 per square meter for attractive facade and outdoor area design.
The program, funded by federal, state (NRW), and city funds, aims to create a friendly and lively city center. It applies to the 'Urban Renewal Area City Center', covering the core area around Friedrichstraße and the pedestrian zone. In 2025, buildings at Friedrichstraße 135 and 160 received a new facade paint with the program's support.
Katrin Neumann, working in the department of urban renewal and monument protection, plays a key role. She emphasizes the importance of modernized facades for enhancing the cityscape and strengthening the city center. Properties in Offerstraße, Blumenstraße, Grünstraße, Sternbergstraße, Nedderstraße, Oststraße, and Bahnhofstraße have already benefited from the funding.
Property owners in Velbert's city center are encouraged to contact the city for more information about this program. With the support of the facade and surroundings program, the city aims to create an attractive and lively urban environment.
