Volkswagen: Cavallo demands an end!
Volkswagen is facing criticism from within its ranks, as works council chairwoman Daniela Cavallo has expressed her discontent with CEO Oliver Blume's dual role as head of both Volkswagen and Porsche.
In a recent statement, Cavallo criticized the current state of Volkswagen, expressing a feeling of gradual winding down in all areas of the company. She emphasized the urgent need for a new target image, one that emphasizes enthusiasm, attractiveness, and technological leadership.
Cavallo's message was clear: the situation of Blume's dual role must end. Her criticism follows media reports that have brought the discussions about Blume's dual role back into focus.
Amidst this tension, there seems to be a reconciliation between the works council and management. This was signaled before the 2024 Crisis Works Council Meeting.
Thomas Schäfer, the brand CEO, presented the new target image of Volkswagen under the banner "Boost 2030". The goal is for Volkswagen to appear as a more uniform brand again.
On September 2nd, the production version of the ID.2all was unveiled to the workforce before the media. Both the ID.2all and the new E-flitzer, which was unveiled under a strict video and photography ban, were shown to the employees. Apart from the ID.2all, the employees also saw the new T-Roc, which had already been through the media.
Cavallo expressed gratitude towards the unveiling of the ID.2all, calling it a great recognition towards the workforce and a big sign of trust. However, she also criticized Blume for being a "part-time CEO" in Wolfsburg while spending the rest of his time at Porsche.
Reports suggest that Porsche is seeking a successor for Blume to allow him to focus solely on leading Volkswagen, as a possible consequence of Cavallo's criticism.
The works council has expressed criticism towards Blume, particularly regarding his double role as CEO of Porsche. The new corporate strategy and its four main fields are seen as a common task to counteract this, with the board needing to regain the lost trust of the workforce.
Both the ID.2all and the new E-flitzer will have their public premiere at the IAA. The future of Volkswagen, under the leadership of Oliver Blume, remains to be seen.
