Residents of Plano Might Greenlight** a Huge $648 Million Bond Package
Saturday saw Plano's residents looking toward a possible approval of a hefty bond package worth a whopping $648 million. This multifaceted package includes seven propositions, catering to road improvements, new facilities, parks, and more.
Moreover, city council and school board members were also on the ballot for the Plano voters. In a previous interview, Plano Mayor John Muns told KERA that the projects in question were crucial to revitalizing Plano's aging infrastructure.
Muns emphasized, " neglected infrastructure could send companies packing if we're not attentive to our city's needs."
Key Propositions
Proposition A: Street Renovations
With nearly three-quarters of the voters on board, Proposition A, focusing on $342.3 million for street enhancements, seems destined for success. The project consists of:- Mending and revamping bridges, alleyways, and downtown infrastructure.- Introduction of new sidewalks and turn lanes at critical intersections in Plano.- Implementing traffic improvements, like new traffic signals and strategically located video cameras.
Proposition B: Police Headquarters
Proposition B, aiming for $155.2 million to build a state-of-the-art police headquarters, seems on track with around 60% of the vote.
Proposition C: Police Training Center
The following proposition, a new police training center, garners support from 62% of the voters, with $51 million allocated.
Proposition D: Public Safety Facilities
Proposition D focuses on public safety facilities and renovations, with $37.5 million allocated. This proposition appears promising, garnering about 65% of the votes. The funds earmarked will be dedicated towards:- Extending Fire Station 14.- Modernizing Fire Station 8, which has not received a major renovation in 30 years, according to the city.
Proposition E: Fleet Operations Facility
Voters were asked to endorse a new fleet maintenance building for the city's Public Works Department, with $45.1 million at stake in Proposition E. The proposition appears to pass with about 56% of the vote.
Proposition F: Library Upgrades
Proposition F seeks funding of $1.9 million to refurbish Schimelpfenig Library, currently 43 years old. The proposition seems promising, with 67% of the vote in its favor.
Proposition G: Park and Recreational Renovations
Lastly, Proposition G, budgeted at $40.8 million for parks and recreational facilities upgrades, shows an overwhelming level of support from nearly 72% of the voters. The city plans to renovate parks that are more than 20 years old, including Schell Park, built in 1975 and 1082.
