Wood-Based Industry Urges MPs for Support Amid Construction Crisis

The German Wood-Based Materials and Interior Doors Industry Association (VHI) recently met with Members of Parliament in the Bundestag to discuss the industry's current challenges and issues. The event, held on September 25, 2025, was led by MP Christian Haase as the patron.

The wood-based materials industry, a European market leader with a turnover of around 5 billion euros in 2024, seeks political support to strengthen its competitiveness. Representatives from various VHI member companies, which process main raw materials like sawmill by-products and waste wood, called for reduced bureaucracy, competitive energy prices, and support for the construction industry.

The VHI, representing manufacturers of particleboard, fiberboard, OSB, WPC, plywood, and interior doors, stressed the industry's significant role as a supplier in construction and related sectors. They highlighted that the construction crisis heavily impacts their business, both directly and through associated industries like furniture and kitchen production.

The wood-based materials industry, a key player in Europe's market, seeks political backing to tackle current challenges and boost competitiveness. With a focus on sustainability through efficient wood use and recycling, the industry urges support for the construction sector to overcome the ongoing crisis.
