World's Cities Offering the Highest Average Salaries in 2019

In a recently published report by an unspecified platform magazine, San Francisco, CA, United States topped the global city salary ranking for 2019, with residents bringing in an average of $6,580 a month. San Jose, CA, followed closely in second place, with an average monthly net salary of $6,457.25.

The ranking analysed the quality of living and salaries for residents in 300 cities worldwide. In addition to San Francisco and San Jose, several other American cities made the list, including Washington, DC (seventh place, $5118.12 average monthly net salary), Seattle, WA (eighth place, $4973.99), and Boston, MA (thirteenth place, $4525.56). Chicago, IL ranked eighteenth ($4061.05), while Raleigh, NC, Austin, TX, Dallas, TX, Atlanta, GA, Los Angeles, CA, and Charlotte, NC, also featured in the top 20.

Swiss cities also performed well in the ranking. Zurich came in third place ($5909.42 average monthly net salary), followed by Bern (fourth place, unspecified amount), Lausanne (ninth place, CHF 4942.65 or approximately $4942.65 USD), and Basel (fifth place, sharing with Geneva, both with an average monthly net salary of CHF 5267.25 or approximately $5267.25 USD).

The salaries in the ranking were calculated 'net of taxes,' or after taxes. The report did not specify the average monthly salaries for the other cities in the top 300. However, it did mention that the four Swiss cities that ranked highest in average gross wages in 2019 were Zurich, Geneva, Basel, and Zug.

Other cities that made the top 30 include Sydney, Australia (thirtieth place, AUD 3580.69 or approximately $2543.68 USD), Minneapolis, MN (twenty-eighth place, $3591.29), Portland, OR (twenty-fourth place, $3783.30), Anchorage, AK (twentieth place, $4021.56), and Sacramento, CA (twenty-sixth place, $3676.18).

Notable mentions include New York, NY (twelfth place, $4646.67), San Diego, CA (fourteenth place, $4352.96), and Aalborg, Denmark (twenty-third place, DKK 287,836.63 or approximately $43,836.63 USD).

The report's publication marks an interesting insight into the global economic landscape, with cities from various countries demonstrating strong performances in terms of salaries and quality of life.
