Toyota's Dominance in the 2024 Auto Market
In the dynamic world of automobiles, Toyota has once again proven its mettle by securing five spots on the top 10 list of best-selling motors in 2024.
Leading the pack is the Toyota RAV4, a compact SUV that has become a favourite for its versatility, reliability, and the addition of a hybrid option. The RAV4, now also known as the Wildlander, enjoyed a significant 11% sales boost, making it the world's top-selling motor of the year.
The Toyota Corolla, a compact car, also made it to the top 10 list, but unfortunately saw an 11% sales drop. Despite this setback, it remains a reliable favourite, particularly in the US.
Another Toyota compact car, the Corolla Cross/Frontlander, experienced an impressive 18% sales increase, indicating a growing demand for this model.
The Toyota Camry, a mid-size saloon available with either an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) or hybrid, continues to be a reliable favorite in the US.
The Toyota Hilux, a global sensation, experienced a 15% sales decline. This could be attributed to its insistence on petrol power in a market increasingly leaning towards hybrid and electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Honda Civic and Honda CR-V, compact cars and SUVs respectively, also made it to the top 10 list. The Honda CR-V saw a small increase in sales numbers (1%), while the search results do not provide information about the second best-selling hybrid SUV brand in the world in 2024.
The Tesla Model 3, an electric saloon, rose up the order from 10th spot in 2023 to 9th overall in 2024. However, the Tesla Model Y experienced a 3% sales decline.
The Ford F-150, a truck, is also on the top 10 list of best-selling motors of 2024.
Interestingly, despite the growing popularity of Electric Vehicles (EVs), such as those built by Tesla and BYD, cars with Internal Combustion Engines still dominate the market.
One such EV is the BYD Qin, a compact saloon available as both a plug-in hybrid and full EV, which is a huge hit in China.
US-based car expert Scotty Kilmer recommends the RAV4 as a reliable second-hand motor under £10,000, further cementing its position as a reliable choice for many.
As we move forward, it will be interesting to see how the automobile market evolves, with the continued rise of EVs and the ongoing demand for reliable, versatile, and efficient vehicles like those offered by Toyota.
