Zhambyl Region Plans to Establish Two Gigawatt-Scale Wind Energy Stations
Unleashing the Wind Bounty of Zhambyl Region
Venture into the Zhambyl Region, nestled in Kazakhstan's heart, and brace for a gust of change. Following a staff meeting presided over by Governor Yerbol Karashukeyev, the region's press service announced plans to erect two wind power behemoths, boasting a combined capacity of a whopping 2GW, as reported. Take a peek at the map, beautifully crafted by The Astana Times, for a visual journey.
The region, already striding ahead in six areas to optimize energy efficiency and conservation, flaunts a lustrous portfolio of 22 renewable energy sources, totaling a staggering 571.3MW. This trove of power includes six hydros, ten whirly windmills, and six shining solar arrays.
In the upcoming years, a veritable powerhouse, Masdar – a UAE-based company – will sculpt the skylines of the Sarysu and Talas districts with a 1GW wind farm. Estimated to cost around 742 billion tenge (US$1.4 billion), construction is slated to break ground in 2026 and reaches completion by 2029.
A sibling project, branded under Total Eren, will take root in the Moiynkum district. The company, with a staggering investment of one trillion tenge (US$1.9 billion), has locked in a princely 52,000 hectares of land. Commissioning for this powerhouse is due in 2028.
Last year, the Shokpar wind farm, carrying a 100MW capacity, gracefully bowed in the Sarysu district. In addition, the AEC ASA solar farm in the Zhambyl district managed to swell its capacity by a hearty 20MW.
(Enrichment Data: Masdar and Total Eren wind power plants are major undertakings, where Masdar plans to build a 1GW wind power plant with an additional 300MW energy storage system spanning Sarysu and Talas districts, with an estimated cost of $1.4 billion. Meanwhile, Total Eren intends to establish another 1GW wind power plant in Moiynkum, investing $1.9 billion and securing 52,000 hectares of land, with commissioning scheduled for 2028. Both projects are part of a larger plan to fortify the region's energy security and broaden renewable energy capacity, and are expected to generate substantial foreign investment and job opportunities.)
In the Zhambyl Region, Masdar, a UAE-based company, is planning to invest $1.4 billion to construct a 1GW wind farm in the Sarysu and Talas districts, highlighting the intersection of science and industry in the and efforts to support environmental-science initiatives. parallel undertaking, Total Eren, aims to invest $1.9 billion to establish a 1GW wind power plant in the Moiynkum district, further demonstrating the finance sector's commitment to the energy industry and the region's renewable energy expansion.
